A North Carolina woman has been found dead after going missing inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park, officials say. Ann Houghton, 73, was discovered just before 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, “roughly a quarter mile off of Enloe Creek Trail,” the National Park Service said in a news release. A cause of death has not been released.

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Great Smokey National Park launched a search operation for missing hiker Ann Houghton. Houghton volunteered with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for over twenty years. She was reported missing on February 1.

Park officials said 73-year-old Ann Houghton had a planned itinerary to hike in the park on Tuesday, Jan. 28 and Wednesday, Jan. 29. She was last seen on Tuesday, and her car was found at Smokemont Campground on Saturday.
