EAGAN, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings and head coach Kevin O'Connell have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract extension. The team announced the extension Tuesday afternoon, with owner and president Mark Wilf calling O'Connell an "innovative play caller, an excellent communicator, and strong leader."

Minnesota Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell was named the NFL Coach of the Year by the Pro Football Writers' Association on Thursday. O'Connell was also named as a finalist for the Associated Press Coach of the Year Award on Thursday.

The Minnesota Vikings didn't have the dream ending to their season that they hoped. However, the front office still has faith in head coach Kevin O'Connell.

Kevin O’Connell, whose contract was set to expire after the 2025 season, is the first coach in Vikings history with multiple 13-win seasons and could be among the leading candidates for NFL Coach of the Year honors.

O'Connell has been with the organization since 2022. Despite making two playoff appearances, the team has yet to advance past the wild-card round during his tenure. Still, he proved in 2024 that he's the right man for the job, and has now been rewarded as such.
