A Chinatown community that believed its ruination lay in the planned construction of a new Sixers arena rejoiced on Sunday as the team abandoned its efforts to build on the neighborhood’s southern doorstep.

After years of planning and ongoing debate, the planners behind a proposal to bring a Sixers arena to Center City have backtracked. Instead, the team will get a new arena in South Philly, an official claimed.

The decision is rooted in a deal struck with Comcast Spectacor, which hopes to transform the South Philly sports complex over the next decade.
