Report: Cincinnati Bengals Head Coach Zac Taylor 'Paused' Defensive Coordinator Search to Speak With Al Golden

Zac Taylor and the Cincinnati Bengals haven’t done much to hide their intentions when it comes to the team’s next defensive corodsintoer. The transparent, narrow search to fill the position has always obviously centered on Notre Dame defensive coordinator Al Golden. Those plans took another step on Monday night.

Notre Dame’s Al Golden “has emerged as a top candidate to be the Bengals new [defensive coordinator]," NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported after the Irish fell to Ohio State in Monday’s National Championship. Zac Taylor was waiting for Notre Dame’s season to end before approaching Golden about the opening, Rapoport said.
With the college football season over, Al Golden can return to the pro coaching ranks. Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator appears to have his next NFL gig lined up.
