BOSTON (AP) — Charlie Coyle scored a pair of third-period goals, stealing the spotlight from fellow Boston University product Macklin Celebrini in his first game back at the TD Garden as an NHLer and leading the Bruins to a 6-3 victory over San Jose on Monday.

Charlie Coyle scored twice in the third period to save the Bruins the ignominy of losing to the 31st-ranked San Jose Sharks, lifting the B’s to a 6-3 victory at the Garden on Monday. The

Bruins winger Nikita Zadorov explained the difference between playing in Vancouver and playing in Boston after signing an extension.

Goalie Jake Allen came in cold, but he picked up his first win since Nov. 23 at Washington. He stopped all 16 shots he faced. Allen denied David Pastrnak, a 60-goal scorer, minutes after entering the game. He made a split toe save on Oliver Wahlstrom and robbed Charlie Coyle on a breakaway as well during the game.

Boston led, 1-0, after the first period, but couldn’t overcome a miserable second in which the Devils scored four times.

First, Brandon Carlo fell down with the puck in his own zone and, after getting up, his flip-out was kept in by Jersey. The B’s regained control but Oesterle’s breakout pass went off Charlie Coyle’s skates and the Devils made it count. Eventually, Dawson Mercer evened the game on a turnaround shot from the slot.

The Boston Bruins will be playing the New Jersey Devils tonight at the Prudential Center. This is an important contest for the Original Six club, as a win would allow them to pass the Tampa Bay Lightning,

The Bruins boast a minus-20 goal differential — the second-worst rate in the Eastern Conference. Boston ranks 26th in the NHL in goals scored per game (2.77), and 23rd in goals against per game (3.17).

After the Bruins' brutal loss, head coach Joe Sacco made some serious changes to the club's lines at practice. After being scratched last game, Oliver Wahlstrom skated on the first line at practice. Morgan Geekie also moved down the middle, while David Pastrnak played at right wing.
