The resurgent Ottawa Senators go for a third straight win when they host the Washington Capitals on Thursday night. The Senators completed a successful weekend back-to-back set with a 3-1 win against the Utah Hockey Club on Sunday.

The NHL-leading Washington Capitals have signed goaltender Logan Thompson to a six-year contract extension worth $35.1 million. Thompson will count $5.85 million against the salary cap from when the new deal kicks in next season through 2030-31. He’s currently in the final season of a contract that’s paying him less than $800,000 annually.

The Sens have been parked in idle since last Sunday when they earned a 3-1 victory over the visiting Utah Hockey Club here. Ottawa is 7-2-1 in its last 10 games, and it is 4-0-1 in its last five home games, with the overtime loss to Washington on Jan. 16 the lone blemish on their home record over that span.
